LIFESTYLE
The proposed open, modern design promotes indoor-outdoor living and focuses on enhancing homeowner’s quality of life and connection with the unique natural surroundings. Local, raw materials are introduced to merge the defined geometry with the surrounding landscape. Corten steel merges the architectural volumes with the oxidized rock formations while concrete is reminiscent of boundary pushing structures that integrate in the land past the project boundaries and metallic facias accentuate the canopy edges and emphasize the clean geometry.

ARTS, CULTURE AND ENTERTAINMENT
Palm Desert is host to a wide range of events with the McCallum Theater gaining acclaim as one of the country’s finest presenting theaters. The city is also home to the Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert and the spectacular Living Desert.

Minimalist volumes adapting to the land support floating canopies and rooftops that surpass the footprint of the building into the landscape to visually extend the architectural limits. Clean geometries contrast with the bulky rock formations enhancing the minimalist design. The indoor-out- door feeling merges the house with the hardscape and connects common spaces around the pool area. Sleeping areas are sheltered around the rocks to provide private coves fully connecting homeowners living experience with the desert. Floor-to-ceiling openings throughout the project frame every space providing a seamless connection with the exterior, eliminating the interior limits of the house and allowing natural light to flow through the house.
Landscaping has been carefully arranged to combine local desert species, providing the interior courtyard with a diverse personality and dynamic color richness while maintaining its greenness throughout the year. Even though the target of the landscaping design has been to maintain the desert rocky landscape in the exterior, several palm trees have been added in the perimeter of the lot given their inherent value and significance in the existing property.

Water features are distributed over the main central space to become a relevant aesthetic and functional feature. From a sustainability perspective, water can be collected in deposits under the swimming pool structure, irrigating the landscape and filling the water features; which helps regulate humidity during the Desert’s dry summer months. The lighting of these features, embellished by the subtle reflections of the landscape, dignifies and defines the different spaces throughout the project.
